Three card poker rules fit in one line: you ante, look at three cards, then play or fold against a dealer who needs queen-high to qualify. The game is quick, the ranking is short, and every figure below follows from counting three-card hands in a standard 52-card deck. Read the five steps, check the ranking table, and then open the table’s own rules window for its paytable.

This page sits inside the card games online family at YG777, which compares the tables by how they ask you to bet. Play at 21+ only.

Three card poker rules in five steps

  1. Place your Ante. An optional Pair Plus side bet goes on its own spot.
  2. Read your three cards. The dealer receives three face down.
  3. Play or fold. A Play bet equal to your Ante keeps you in; folding loses the Ante.
  4. The dealer turns over three cards. Queen-high or better qualifies.
  5. Compare and settle. A qualifying dealer is compared with you; a non-qualifying dealer pays the Ante and returns the Play.

Three card poker hand ranking and odds

There are 22,100 possible three-card hands (52 times 51 times 50 divided by 6). Counting each category gives the table below. Straight flushes number 12 sequences times 4 suits, trips are 13 ranks times 4 cards, and so on.

RankHandCombinationsChance
1Straight flush480.22%
2Three of a kind520.24%
3Straight7203.26%
4Flush1,0964.96%
5Pair3,74416.94%
6High card16,44074.39%

A straight beats a flush because with three cards it comes up less often than a flush does, the reverse of five-card poker. Aces run high or low in a straight (A-2-3 and Q-K-A are both straights), so A-K-Q is the best straight flush. For the five-card top hand, see why a royal flush needs five cards, since it cannot appear in a three-card deal.

How the dealer qualifies

The dealer qualifies with queen-high or better. A hand such as J-9-4 does not qualify and a pair of twos does. This one rule changes how the table settles.

How often does the dealer fail? Ranks 2 to jack give 10 ranks, so 120 rank sets of three, times 64 suit combinations, equals 7,680. Remove 512 straights and 480 flushes and add back the 32 straight flushes counted twice, and 6,720 hands remain. That is 6,720 out of 22,100, or 30.41 percent, so about three deals in ten leave the dealer without a qualifying hand.

Ante bonus and Pair Plus

Two extras sit beside the main wager. The Ante bonus pays on a straight or better in your own hand, whatever the dealer holds. Pair Plus is a separate bet paid on a pair or better. The payout schedule for each depends on the table, so open the paytable on the table itself and read the line for your table before betting.

Here is an example with round numbers, not a table limit. You stake ₱100 on the Ante, ₱100 on Play and ₱50 on Pair Plus. A pair pays Pair Plus whatever the dealer shows, while the main bet depends only on the Play comparison.

To see why each extra bet carries its own cost, read the house edge meaning.
